Building a Foundation: Grades 6 and 7

The MECCA Business Learning Institute (MBLI) will launch with a focus on nurturing the growth and development of students in grades 6 and 7, providing a solid academic foundation that will set them up for future success in high school, college, and beyond. Our middle school program is designed to spark curiosity, foster leadership, and instill essential business and life skills.

Core Subjects with a Twist
Our academic program incorporates core subjects—Math, Science, English, and Social Studies—with a unique twist: each subject integrates real-world business applications. This approach helps students see how what they're learning connects to real-world scenarios and prepares them for a business-oriented path. Our goal is to foster strong skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity in each subject area.

Extended Literacy and Math Instruction
We recognize the importance of foundational skills in math and literacy for future academic and career success. Students receive increased instructional time in both subjects, ensuring they build strong abilities in critical areas that serve as the building blocks for other aspects of their learning.

Leadership and Social Skills
At MBLI, leadership development starts early. Our middle school students participate in activities that cultivate leadership, teamwork, and social skills, preparing them to be effective communicators and confident individuals in any situation. This includes a school-wide approach to leadership development, such as guided class discussions, group projects, and a school leadership club that provides opportunities for students to take on leadership roles.

Summer Preparation Program
Before the school year begins, incoming students in grades 6 and 7 will participate in a summer preparation program. This program introduces students to the structure and rigor of the MBLI curriculum, provides opportunities to build new friendships, and prepares them to take ownership of their learning journey.

Adding Grades Each Year: A Growing School

MBLI will add one new grade level each year until reaching grade 12, creating a full middle and high school program. This gradual growth ensures that students have a continuous, high-quality education experience that evolves to meet their academic and career readiness needs.

High School Curriculum Pathways
As MBLI expands through the high school grades, students will have access to specialized learning opportunities designed to align with their interests and career goals. Our high school curriculum will offer:

  • Advanced Business Courses: Including finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and business management.

  • Career Pathways: Students will be able to select from different business career pathways, allowing them to explore specific areas of interest in depth.

  • AP and Early-College Courses: High school students will have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and early-college classes to earn college credits while still in high school.

  • Industry Certifications: Students will have opportunities to earn industry-recognized certifications that give them a competitive advantage in the job market.

Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Real-World Business Experience

Our academic program emphasizes Project-Based Learning (PBL), which encourages students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Through PBL, students develop important skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, research, and presentation—all while learning how to tackle challenges faced by businesses.

Hands-On Business Projects
MBLI students will take part in hands-on business projects throughout their education. This includes:

  • Entrepreneurial Simulations: Students work in teams to create a business idea, develop a plan, and present their concept to their peers and mentors.

  • School-Run Business Initiatives: Opportunities to participate in running a student-led school store and a school banking program, where students learn essential concepts in finance, customer service, and operations.

Corporate Partnerships
MBLI is committed to bridging classroom learning with the business world. We partner with local businesses and corporate professionals to provide job shadowing, mentorship, and internships. These experiences are designed to help students gain a deeper understanding of the business world and prepare them for future careers.

  • Tutored Study Halls and Workshops: During school hours, students will have access to study skills workshops and tutored study halls that provide additional time and support for completing assignments, working on projects, and preparing for exams.

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): We integrate social-emotional learning into our academic program to help students build skills in emotional regulation, empathy, and effective communication—ensuring their well-being and development alongside their academic achievements.
